A Tasting with History
This summer, Soutomaior Castle is expanding its wine experience: A Tasting with History returns with three events that combine heritage, landscape and wine. This year, the wine selection for each event has been curated exclusively by sommelier Jacobo Rivas.
These three events – starting at 7.30 pm and limited to groups of fifteen people – offer different perspectives on the region and the occasion:
6 August: Rías Baixas from North to South. A horizontal tasting exploring the five subzones that make up the Rías Baixas Designation of Origin – Val do Salnés, Condado do Tea, O Rosal, Ribeira do Ulla and Soutomaior – to show how the soil and proximity to the sea shape Albariño and other indigenous grape varieties. Paired with seasonal local produce.
12 August: The Eclipse in the Vineyard. A tasting experience combined with the observation of the partial solar eclipse, which reaches its peak at 8.29 pm. The event follows a journey ‘from light to shadow’, from the youngest, fresh wines to those with longer ageing. Certified equipment will be provided for safe observation, together with a brief introduction to the phenomenon. Paired with seasonal local produce.
20 August: The Sommelier’s Challenge. A blind tasting for pairs or small groups, guided by Jacobo Rivas’s clues and paired with seasonal local produce, in the most playful and participatory event in the series.
An appointment with wine, memory and landscape.
